This is a quick review of two pain killers I've had the pleasure of experiencing since Saturday night. Full disclosure here, Percocet and Dilaudid wanted me to write this review so much, they let me experience excruciating back pain for a week and a half (after shoveling too much snow), then develop a mid grade fever and chills.
They put me up in a one bedroom suite in a local establishment, called an "ER", with good, if a bit slow service, where I was given a rather poor fitting robe, a short adjustable bed, and my own personal bag of water, which for some reason I could not drink but was dripped through a tube and then a needle in my arm. Must be a French thing or something.
Anyway, onto to the drug test. The first was the Dilaudid, which, I must say, was wonderful. It is a very economical drug, requiring only a 1mg dose to relieve almost all of the pain I was experiencing, which was considerable at that point. The down side is that it does give a bit of a "tingly" sensation in the fingers, and a slight feeling of intoxication, like having a good stif drink of Scotch, though that last only a very short time. I had two doses in the nine hours I was there. The biggest let Down is that I couldn't take any home for some reason. All in all, a big thumbs up.
The other drug is Percocet, which the hotel arranged for me to pick up at a local store at my convenience after my stay was complete. It is nice that I was able to bring this medication home with me, but, I hate to say this, I don't experience the same relief from the discomfort I've been having. The Percocet comes in pill form, which are NOT very tasty, poor marks for that, but are easy to handle with good portability. It takes about two pills for any pain to be diminished, however they make me very drowsy after chasing them down with a beer (I kid, i kid).
Overall, I'd go for the Dilaudid if any of my fellow Opponaughts are in a similar situation, as it is much more effective than anything else. It kicks the shit out of aspirin, Tylenol or Advil, that's for sure.
Next up, a review of physical therapy and chiropractic methods. It should be fun.

I don't remember which medications I took when I got my wisdom teeth removed, I know one was like taking a handful of Advils at once. But the only thing I got out of this experience is I now understand why there are people addicted to pain medication.

Yep, addiction is on my mind, so I'm careful on how much and when I take the Percocet. It was very nice to be pain free for a few hours, however, and I can see why, if the pain was more severe, why someone would become addicted to powerful pain killers. I get a kick out of all the Advil/Motrin commercials lately. They ain't got shit on narcotics. 800 mgs of Motrin didn't put a dent in my back pain. I'm hoping the PT and chiropractic care will help.

It really depends on the person, I think.

Percocet is the worst thing known to mankind. Or at least known to me. When I snapped my collarbone in half whilst snowboarding many years back, the docs gave me some percocet. Now, a 17 year old who's in a state of loopiness from percocet as well as from suffering a broken collarbone should not be in control of his pain pill consumption. But the people I was with at the time didn't monitor my dosage enough, and I took too many.

I woke up in the middle of the night after having what can be only described as hallucinogenic dreams, and then spent the rest of the night curled up next to the toilet puking my brains out.

Dont. ever. OD. on. percocet.

I later talked to a doctor and he agreed that junkies don't like percocet because of it's negative side effects.

I had a similar experience, but my dosage was monitored and the sickness happened anyway. Thought my head was going to explode and I thought I would rather be dead.

I've only taken two low dosage pills at night before bed. However, I've noticed I have trouble falling asleep, with weird thoughts before sleep and odd dreams. I might taper the dosage down if this keeps up.
